I am an Outlier

Since I have been spending my lunch hours this week submitting stories, I have spent more time than usual on duotrope.com. This a website that helps you keep track of your submissions and reports the results of the thousands of people who use it so you know when you can expect when you send a story off.

Duotrope.com has a new feature that reports statistics with and without outliers. An outlier, as far as Duotrope is concerned, is a data point that doesn’t fit into the statistics.

I only started using Duotrope in the last year. I usually sell my stories on the first or second time out. According to Duptrope, selling stories is unnatural. What I figure from the statistics, is that my acceptances are outliers. I sell more at a greater rate than is expected, so I am removed from the stats.

It is good to live on the edge, I guess.
