Poker and Science Fiction

There’s an article over at sfreader.com about Science Fiction and Poker. It is about Texas Hold ’em, a game that I consider Poker for Dummies, but it makes some nice points about the submission process. I have made similar points in articles at the late lamented Astounding Tales and other places. Robert J. Santa, though, does a good job with the analogies and deserves a slap on the back.

Firebrand Fiction Reviews and Articles
The article appeared in January, but I just read it today. Firebrand fiction only comes out every few months, so I don’t check it often.

Appropriate Heinlein quotes:

There is no such thing as “social gambling.” Either you are there to cut the other bloke’s heart out and eat it—or you’re a sucker. If you don’t like this choice—don’t gamble.

Certainly the game is rigged. Don’t let that stop you; if you don’t bet, you can’t win.
