Telling nixed (again)

Joy Marchand, from Shimmer magazine, after Herculean efforts, has failed to get my story accepted. It is not often that an editor goes out on the limb for a story and I appreciate her efforts. I received back the story with extensive comments. I’ll have to go through it line by line and maybe improve it a little. I saw recently, (I forget where) a pro market that might like it, but they wanted 4000 words. The story is 3,800, so maybe Joy’s comments will result in another 200 words. Who knows?
I submitted this story to SH on the first draft at 1,800 words. I think I might change the title and send it back to them for reconsideration. I don’t know how editors feel about getting a story back that they once rejected, although I doubt that they’d recognize this one.

I wouldn’t send it back. Generally, editors don’t want to see revisions of a story unless they ask for it, or unless their guidelines say it’s o.k.

Just the opinion of one editor who wouldn’t be happy with someone sending me something I’ve already read.

The thing is, J, is that the story is perfect for Fifth Di… or Aoife’s Kiss. The timing has been funny. I don’t like waiting and you don’t respond until a just before pub. I figure that I have time to send it somewhere else and perhaps crack a new market. When the time came, Shimmer was sitting on the story.
If the story is still unsold 3 months from now, you’ll get it.
When Tyree get’s his slush under control I have a couple that I could send him.

The guidelines for TFD have actually changed…it’s about one week to two months now, depending on how much the “real” job is killing me.
