Domain Name Schemes – MLB Magic Numbers

I registered YankeesMagicNumber.com and MetsMagicNumber.com late last year during the playoffs. I have recently started getting a few cents from ad revenues on them. With Erica’s blessing and help from the poker boys, I registered:

I am not a sports person. I don’t care much about baseball most of the year. I think it is ironic that I would make money off of this. The magic number is the number of games that a team must win (or opponents lose) to guarantee a place in the post season.

There are lots of other teams that I did not register. The same day that I registered the Yankees, somebody registered the Red Sox. I think a Boston fan at HostGator saw what I was doing. I thought about registering BostonMagicNumber.com, but a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, so I didn’t do it.

(The magic number is calculated by taking the number of games yet to be played, add one, then subtract the number of games ahead in the loss column of the standings from the closest opponent. I get the numbers from a sports web site rather than calculate them myself, though.)
