Happy Trails

I scored big time at the flea market, Sunday. I found a box of vinyl LPs. The person must have had exactly my taste in music. The great find was “Happy Trails, Quicksilver Messenger Service“, which I have not heard in 35 years. I was a Quicksilver fan in the late 60’s and this was their best album, recorded live at the Filmore. Click on the link and listen to the clip of Mona. Very cool!!!!!
I scored two early Johnny Winter albums, the first Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Byrds – Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Commander Cody’s first album, two Canned Heat records, Music from Big Pink, Allman Bros live at Fillmore, John Mayhall with Clapton and a bunch of others. All in pristine condition!

50 cents each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are set at the poker game for weeks.

Wasn’t Canned Heat at Woodstock in ’69? One of my fav bands from that era was “Chilliwack.” Font guy Bill Henderson. He still hosts the Jasper Music festival workshop every year pushing on in his early 60’s and doing shows. In the late 60’s The Collectors pre Chilliwack were the darlings of the St.Louis music scene for some strange reason even unknown to Bill!

    Thanks for the post.

Canned Heat is a strange band. The leader committed suicide. They are mostly very good, but sometimes dreadful. Their Woodstock hit “Going Up Country” seems to appear on every album they made – like Hot Tuna’s “Keep my Lamp Trimmed and Burning” that appears on many of their albums.
I listened to the Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo last night. It is supposed to be an important record and, though very good, did not rock me the way Quicksilver did. I will listen again and maybe it will grow on me.
I will google Chilliwack and see if I can download some song snippets.
